BAIL MONTH - FACT #14

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

Today's Bail Month Fact comes once again from the 2004 Helland and Tabarrok study out of the University of Chicago.  The study looked at the effectiveness of various forms of release by examining failure to appear rates, fugitive rates and capture rates of felony defendants who fell under each particular form.  The results showed that commercial bail was the most effective form of release across the board.  Additionally, they also showed that those states that do not have commercial bail were paying an extremly high price in both social and fiscal costs.  See today's Bail Month Fact #14 below.
