Below is the third video in the VERA Truth series that is currently showing on YouTube. Why does the VERA Institute of Justice want to let violent offenders out of jail for free with no supervision? Especially since Louisiana already has a long list of offenses that aren’t eligible for these free bail bond programs. Last year House Bill 357 (supported by VERA) would have made it possible for people charged with many of these violent offenses to be released through VERA’s free bail bond program. This bill would have made this a statewide practice and would have prevented the public from having access to the records that show who was let out and why.
