When you have a question about something, what is the first place you look for the answer?  If you need a recommendation for a plumber or contractor, where do you look for advice?  If you are like most people including present company, the first place you look is the internet.  Say goodbye to that set of Britannica Encyclopedias your parents gave you (that reference was for the older folks), finding the answer to just about any questions (except the meaning of life of course) can be found simply by going on line and asking.  In today’s bail bond blog, we are going to talk about a story in which people are using the internet to not just find a good restaurant near them, but rather to keep their neighborhoods safer.

This past month in Dixon, California, a man had his bicycle stolen.  Instead of going through the normal channels and contacting the authorities, he decided to take things into his own hands.  Since, the bike theft was caught on a home security surveillance video, the man decided to share it with the whole community.  He created a Facebook page and posted the video on the page along with a $100 reward.  The fan site built up to 400 fans who shared the video and message posts about the thief.  The amazing thing about this story isn’t that the community rallied around a Facebook page to solve a crime, but rather the fact that 34 days after the page was created the same man that stole the bike appears in another home surveillance video to be returning it.  Has social media become the next great crime fighting tool or will it remain just a great place to see funny cat and dog videos.  What do you think?  Read the original story below.
