Have you ever been convicted of a crime?  It is a question that we all have had to answer at one point in our life.  If you are sitting there thinking to yourself, I have never had to answer that question, than think back to your first job as a teenager and the job application you filled out.  Believe it or not, somewhere on that application was the question, have you ever been convicted of a felony?  For most of us that question is nothing to worry about, we just check the “no” box and move on to the next question, but for some people who have been convicted, it becomes the biggest road block to getting their life back on track.  This is the topic of today’s bail bond blog post.

In New York, lawmakers are proposing a bill that would remove that question from all job applications and prohibit business owners from even asking the question until the individual had already been hired.  As a business owner, isn’t it important to know that background of the people you are employing?  For the jobseeker, is it unfair that you will never be able to erase one mistake you may have made in your life?  These are two very challenging questions?  What do you think? Should employers be able to ask the question before hiring someone…or should job seekers have the right to not share that information during the application process.
