Being a parent is one of the greatest things there is.  Not only do you get to experience the pride and love that comes with raising a child to adulthood, but you get to watch your child grow and experience life in a way that takes you back to your own childhood.  Just sitting at your front door, watching your kids walk to school like you did so many times before is a very emotional thing.  But let’s not get carried away, this emotional connection to your children can take a very different shape when they get into trouble.  For example, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, parents are held responsible for their children attending school.  If they fail to do so, then they can end up in jail.  Yep we said jail.

In Tulsa last year, out of 6000 misdemeanors, 580 were related to truancy.  That is a parent failing to get their child to school.  What happens is that schools will report children with 10 or more unexcused absences to authorities.  Parents are then cited and brought up on truancy charges.  First offense can send you searching for a bail bondsman as it includes a $25 fine and up to 5 days in jail.  So next time your child heads off to school, keep your fingers crossed that he actually ends up there…especially if you live in Tulsa.  Read original story below.
