This is just the story you want to hear if you’re about to embark on a long flight! Two Air Transat pilots have recently been suspended. Why, you may ask? Because they were drunk and got caught!

The two pilots recently were charged with being impaired prior to flying from Glasgow to Toronto. Thank goodness they were caught before they had a plane full of people up in the air!

Members of the crew were the first to notice something amiss when pilots, Capt. Jean-Francois Perreault, 39, and First officer Imran Zafar Syed, 37, acted like they may be under the influence of something. They quickly notified the authorities before taking off.

While passengers were frustrated by the turn of events and delays it caused, when word got through on why they were delayed, people became more practical.

“We’re a day behind, but it’s better than crashing over the Atlantic,” a passenger said. “At least they were on the ball enough to stop the pilots from flying the plane.”

The captain and first officer were arrested and made a court appearance, where Scottish courts were opposed to bail for the pilots.

“The safety of our crew and passengers is and will always be our top priority, and the recent event in Glasgow goes against the value of our airline,” a spokesman from Air Transat said.

Passengers ended up waiting for about four hours before the flight was officially cancelled. They were put up in a nearby hotel, given a $200 travel voucher and re-booked on the next flight the following day.

Which makes us wonder… how many times does this happen when the crew doesn’t raise a red flag?!
