Well this is quite ironic! Two women escaped from jail recently and decided that they would go to a local Escape Room, where people are timed to see how quickly they can make their way out of a room.

Unfortunately for them, they didn’t quite make it out of this Escape Room and ended up being arrested instead!

Kelsie Laine Marie Mast, 23, and Samantha Faye Toope, 20, jumped the fence at the prison they were being held at and made a pretty quick and clean getaway! The next day, they decided to have a little fun and hang out in public (bad move #1!) and headed to the local Escape Room for a little fun. As the escaped jailers asked the normal questions about the popular problem-solving and strategy game rooms, the worker took them down the hall to explain how it worked.

But they didn’t get very far! As they turned a corner, the hallway was full of police officers! “They were arrested immediately and that was the end of that conversation,” Escape Room worker, Rebecca Liaw, said. Another worker, Jonathan Liaw, said he was in the front lobby when the cops came in asking if they’d seen two women. When Liaw said they had just went down the hall, four more police officers joined and proceeded to put the women immediately in handcuffs. “There were no signs of anything that we should be red-flagging. They didn’t seem like they were hiding from anyone or anything,” Liaw said.

The cops described both women as violent offenders with a history of weapons offences. Toope had been serving a two-year sentence for robbery, theft, possession of property obtained by crime and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. Mast was in the process of serving two years and nine months for drug trafficking, theft and possession of property obtained by crime and mischief.

The prison is also going to look into their security to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again. Good idea!
