What Would You Choose...Jail or Probation?

jail timeOkay, so you have been arrested for a crime.  While you were awaiting trial you used a bail bondsman and bailed out of jail.  Your family put up their house as collateral, and your bail bond agent made sure you went to all your court dates.  You manned up and took your medicine and had your day in court.  Ultimately the judge found you guilty and now you are given a choice..."Jail Time" or "Probation"?  While most of us will never have to face this question (knock on wood), for some it is a harsh reality and a question that can determine the path of the rest of your life.  But if you did have to make that choice, what would you choose?  Jail?  Probation?  Most people end up choosing probation and a fine, but according to an article in the Opinion section of the Times-Herald this morning, that might not be the best choice.  According to the author of the article, you need to understand what probation really means and what you are signing up for.  It is hard to believe that “Jail” is a better option than anything, but then again, what do I know?
