When you picture what your wedding day will look like, it probably doesn’t involve the groom and six others spending the night in jail and the bride being treated for dehydration!

That’s exactly what happened at this wedding, though. What should have been a happy day ended with one giant brawl at the wedding reception in Berks County. Police were called for a fight that got out of control with people pushing and shoving each other outside of the venue. And of course, they were all heavily intoxicated.

“I just saw three groups separating and fighting, and at that point I realized I needed some help,” said venue owner Doug Mehrkam. By the time the police arrived, they found one individual bleeding and many people being belligerent. The bleeding individual was taken into custody right away.

Guests started making threats to officers with lots of pushing and shoving, and the police knew they were in for quite an ordeal!

It appeared to all start because a woman named Mandi Groh was approached by a guest because her 14-year-old son was drunk. Ms. Groh didn’t take too well to that accusation and punched the bearer of bad news in the face. People tried to intervene but it only got more out of control and punches kept on flying.

By the time the officers were able to get to the bottom of the story, the groom, Nicholas Papoutsis, challenged officers to a fight and refused to take a step back, so he was taken into custody. At the end of the night, 16 police departments around the county had responded to the call in order to get things under control!

The poor bride sat on the ground and watched the whole scene unfold and was later treated for dehydration at the scene. She witnessed people getting hit with stun guns and police having to pull out their batons. So much for their romantic wedding night.

Overall, 7 people were arrested. Oh… and the 14-year-old boy was indeed drunk blowing a 0.16 on the breathalyzer…
