According to Ecclesiastes 3:2 (and Kevin Bacon from Footloose),  “To every think there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.  A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted…and of course there is a time to Dance.”  That is unless you are in Japan.

Just when you thought the sacred art of dancing couldn’t be touched, the Japanese are making history and taking a page out of the 1984 movie “Footloose” with Kevin Bacon.  But this movie doesn’t take place in a small religious town in Utah with a misguided preacher (played brilliantly by John Lithgow), but rather in the big vibrant, modern city of Tokyo.  According to the article, there is a new law that puts serious restrictions on night clubs and discos.  These new laws are leading to raids at local establishments and fines to owners for “allowing unlicensed dancing.”  Seriously?  Jail time and a bail bond for shaking your money maker?   The good news is that the Japanese faithful are not taking this situation sitting down.  They currently have a petition with 155,879 signatures and growing that they hope will persuade lawmakers into relaxing things a bit.

We wish the Japanese all the luck in their fight against these evil dance haters.  No one puts it better than Kevin Bacon or shall we say, Ren McCormack (his character in Footloose0, when he arrives at the long awaited prom with the preacher’s daughter and his blessing and screams to the crowd… “Let’s Dance!”   Read the original story below.
