It is hard to argue with the fact that everyone loves a good plate of barbeque ribs…and deep down in the heart of Texas, good ribs are like good religion.  Many a vegetarian have been tempted and have ultimately fallen off the wagon when confronted with a big ole, juicy rack of ribs.

Well earlier this week, a story broke about a man in Waco, Texas, who didn’t just fall off the wagon for some ribs…he went plain wacko (which apparently people in Waco are known for).  According to authorities, back in 2011, this man stole a rack of ribs from a grocery store.  He was confronted in the parking lot by an employee of the store because he had a large “rack of rib” shaped bulge in his shirt…both strange and conspicuous.  When the man reached for the sky, the ribs fell to the ground (not his actual ribs, but the ones he was hiding under his shirt).  When asked if he had anything else, the man said he had a knife too.  Now we aren’t sure if he was threatening the store clerk with a knife or if he was just stating that he had a knife that he was eventually going to use to eat the ribs. Either way, the knife comment quickly changed the crime from a simple shoplifting to a more serious crime.  And when we say serious, we mean heart attack serious.  The man got a whopping 50 years for his crime (just for the record, he had 9 previous convictions).   We aren’t sure if he was released pretrial on a bail bond before his sentencing, but we do know he will have plenty of time to think about his actions.

Anyway, do you think the punishment fits the crime?  50 years for 12 ribs?  By the way, there is a silver lining to this story.  The prison that the man will be sent to does serve ribs on Thursday nights…just kidding, but wouldn’t that have been ironic.  Read the original story below.
