There is probably nothing more disheartening and embarrassing for a comedian than standing in front of a room full of quiet people who aren’t laughing when you are trying to make them laugh.  While we aren’t stand-up comedians ourselves (at least not professionally) we can only assume that it is a pretty horrible feeling.  But as we all know, the show must go on and most professional comedians can probably just ignore the silence, shrug it off and move on to the next joke.   Unfortunately for the rest of us, a joke gone bad can be pretty devastating…and for some it can actually land them in jail.

This past week, a Rogersville, Tennessee man thought he would play a prank on the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Department.  He stood outside the jail entrance banging on the door stating that there was an unresponsive woman lying in the parking lot.   Two Sheriffs responded to the man’s claim and were unable to locate the woman.  The man kept pointing them in different directions until he finally stopped and said “Got you!”  While the man might have thought this was hysterical, the sheriffs didn’t and the man was arrested for filing a false report and public intoxication.  He was being held on a $750 bail bond.  So next time you think that playing a joke on your local sheriff might be a good idea,  think again, because ultimately the joke might be on you and a night in jail is really not very funny.  Read the original story below.
