Has social media made parenting harder or easier?  Whatever your answer is to that question, social media is here to stay and something that you have to address as a parent.  From tracking your kids activity to watching who they are friends with, modern day parenting involves knowing all the ins and outs of social media and trying to be one step ahead of your kids. Today’s bail bond blog post is about a family member that was trying to protect their niece and got a big surprise instead.

This past week in Tuscaloosa, Alabama a concerned aunt decided to get a glimpse into her niece’s social media activity.  She created a fake Facebook profile for a fictional man.  She then friended her niece as the fake man because the niece had already blocked the aunt from her account.  From the very first conversation with her niece as the fake man, the aunt knew there was a big problem.  The young niece not only gave out their address, but offered herself to the man in exchange for paying her $50 cell bill.  As horrible as that is, it isn’t even the worst part of the story.  Several chats later the young girls asks the man to come to Alabama and kidnap her and take her away.  She adds, if her aunt tries to stop him that he should just shoot and kill her.  YIKES!  Can you even imagine reading something like that?

Anyway, as you can probably imagine, the aunt didn’t hesitate and contact the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and reported  the incident.  The 19 year old niece was arrested on charges of soliciting murder and was given a $30,000 bail.  Next time you want to see what your kids are saying to others online, brace yourself, because you might not like what you hear.
