It’s always a shame to hear of people being taken advantage of by those who are looking to make a quick buck.

In Vancouver, that is exactly what happened when three women approached people, predominantly elderly Asian women, and convinced them that evil spirits were following them!

The victims were approached by these three scam artists and convinced them that not only were evil spirits following them, but if they didn’t participate in a blessing ceremony, the spirits would harm members of their families. The women robbed them of significant amounts of cash and jewelry, in order to perform the “ceremony” that would bless the money and jewelry to remove the evil spirits.

However, after placing all of their money and jewelry in a bag to be blessed, the victims were instructed to not open it for several days and not tell anyone what was happening or the curse would continue. Of course, when the bad was finally opened, it was empty and the three women were long gone.

All of the victims that came forward reported being defrauded out of $10,000 to $20,000 in money and jewelry.

Hailan Lu, 53, Meizhan Pan, 57, and Rong Lin, 61, were identified by Vancouver Police and were arrested as they tried to board a plane in Toronto. They were caught just in the knick of time!

They now have been charged with extortion and fraud and remain in custody as they await transportation back to Vancouver. Don’t fall victim to these kinds of scams! If it’s too good to be true, it probably is and never give money or valuables to be “blessed”!
