One of the greatest things about this country is the collection of rights and freedoms that we all have as American citizens.  The concepts of innocent until proven guilty and the opportunity to have your case heard by a jury of your peers are what make our criminal justice system so great.  That being said, one of the most dreaded public services that all of us must participate in is still jury duty.  If you are anything like me, that one piece of mail that you dread receiving all year long isn’t your property tax bill from the government.  It isn’t even the dozens of political fliers and propaganda you get this time of year.  It is the dreaded jury summons.  You know…that one piece of mail that you would love to ignore, but know that you can’t for fear of what might happen to you.  In fact, the stories you hear about what happens to people who don’t show up or just ignore the notices have become almost urban myths…at least until now.

Recently a Montana Man was thrown in jail for not showing up for jury duty.  His excuse was that he just “spaced it.”  Unfortunately for the young man, he “spaced it” on June 9th, on July 20th, on July 26th, and on August 23rd.  Oh yah, he also spaced it after a Sheriff was sent out on July 6th. We aren’t sure if this guy will need a bail bondsman, but we do know he will pay a fine and do a little time.  Read the original story below.
