We don’t usually cover international stories but this one has gone beyond country borders and reached over 500 million people around the world…or at least it has on YouTube. We are talking about the 5 teen girls from Indonesia who recently filmed themselves dancing to a Maroon 5 song. As you watch the video, it seems pretty harmless…just a bunch of teenage girls goofing off and having fun together. Unfortunately for them, the headmaster of their school was one of the 500 million people who saw the video, and to say he wasn’t pleased is an understatement. According to the northwest Ohio news outlet that reported the story, the video was made during an Islamic prayer session which is a big no no.
The girls are being charged with blasphemy and actually face jail time in a juvenile facility for “tainting religion.” Once again, according to the article, the school and members of the community were “offended by the video and felt it insulted Islam.” If this same situation had happened in this country, the girls wouldn’t be going to jail and needing a bail bond, rather they would probably get an interview on Good Morning America and then get their own reality show. What do you think? Does the punishment fit the crime…or do girls just want to have fun? Read the original story below.
