We all know the story about Robin Hood and his band of merry men. According to legend, and a couple pretty horrible Hollywood renditions of the story (one starring Russell Crowe and the other starring Kevin Costner and a really romantic Bryan Adams song), Mr. Hood was notorious for stealing things from the rich and giving them to the poor. While everyone is in favor of helping those less fortunate, the whole Robin Hood thing seems a little misguided to us. Here is a guy that was “stealing” from those who had and “giving” to those who didn’t. It kind of makes sense until Robin Hood ends up classifying himself as one of the “don’t haves”, so that he can keep the stuff he took from the “haves.” Still with us here? In other words, you can’t give money to your favorite charity and then claim that your favorite charity is you!
Anyway, the point of all this is to talk about a modern day Robin Hood (without the tights and merry men) who was recently on trial in Cheyenne, Wyoming for stealing $140,000 from a US Bank in Jackson, Wyoming. According to the self-proclaimed savior of the people, the bank robber claims to have given the money to various homeless people around the country. The reason for his actions was based on his belief that the banking system in the US was unfair and taking advantage of the poor (BTW…the man is not from the US, but rather from Australia…so thanks for caring…and eat your heart out Russell Crowe).
Just as all fairy tales must come to an end, so must this story. According to authorities, the “do gooder” was not finished handing all the money out to the poor. Instead, he was apprehended in Utah, where he was living in an upscale hotel and had $30,000 cash in hand. Hmmmm? Robin Hood? Or just a no good robbing hood? You decide. Read the original story below.
