Who knew that trying to give water to some poor, thirsty pigs could get someone into so much trouble?! A Canadian animal rights activist is finding this out the hard way and could face up to 10 years in prison!

All she wanted to do was give some water to pigs that were headed to slaughter on a scorching day this past summer. Anita Krajnc, 48, may have just went about it in the wrong way.

She has been charged with criminal mischief after having a run-in with the driver of a semi that was carrying pigs to an Ontario pork processing plant. They were trying to give the pigs water while the semi was stopped at a traffic light. When the driver climbed out of the semi to confront her, craziness erupted:

“Jesus said, If they’re thirsty, give them water,” she tells him.“You know what? These are not humans, you dumb frickin’ broad.” He retorted back.

The driver even went so far as to claim that what Krajnc was trying to give the pigs wasn’t just water. When the owner of the pigs found out what had happened, he filed a police complaint the next day and she was soon charged with criminal mischief.

While the pigs’ owner claims his pigs are all treated ethically and in accordance with all standards and regulations, Krajnc still believes it’s an inhuman act and is appalled she got charged with anything at all.

Several online petitions have begun in Krajnc’s defence and have gathered almost 200,000 signatures. Her next pretrial date is December 15th and her case isn’t expected to go to court until August, 2016. We’ll have to wait to see how this one plays out!
