Well according to a judge in Eugene, Oregon, these are two crimes that he thinks are equally despicable.  He even compared faking cancer to stealing from the collection dish in church.  Regardless of what you think is a worse crime, it still amazes me how low someone can go to even think about committing a crime like this.  Even more amazing is that this most recent sotry now makes 4 different stories in the past 4 months where someone has faked having cancer in order to embezzle money from friends and community members.  Seriously people…one story is enough but four?

What makes this crime so horrible isn’t the sheer dishonest nature of the perpetrator, but rather the wake of distrust and skepticism that he has potentially left in the community.  What happens to the young kid that does come down with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma?   What happens when he reaches out to the same community members for help?  Will the willingness to help still be there?  Will people still have the same community sense of charity?  We can only hope so.  Then and only then will the real victims of this selfish and stupid crime be created.

The man was sentenced to 6 months in jail and 18 months of probation.   He was also ordered to pay back the more than $9,000 he stole.  Read the original story below.
