On June 14th, 1777 the Second Continental Congress created the American Flag. Therefore, the week of June 14 is designated as “National Flag Week” in the United States. All across the country Americans celebrate the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the nation’s banner. Citizens nationwide are urged to fly the flag all week long to celebrate, honor and reflect on the flag’s importance.
