Facebook Slip May Mean Jail Time Trip

Wednesday, January 7, 2015

Facebook jail timeIf you ever had to go to jail for a few months and then was released early…what would be first thing you would do?  Would you drive thru McDonalds?  Would you go out looking for a good time? Would you just stay in and spend time with your family?  These are all reasonable options for most people, but apparently not for one man in Ohio.  Today’s bail bond blog post is about what one guy decided to do when he was released from jail and of course it involves social media.

After being sent to prison for his role in the vehicular death of another young man, this young Ohio man decided that posting something on his Facebook page would be one of the first things he would do with his new found freedom.  This is what he wrote:
“Prison didnt break me. It MADE me. Im free. Im a new man. Dont come at me like before. Yes im skinny and muscular now. 7 months of working out everyday. Love my real friends an fam. Shout outs to my fam behind bars. Ill see ya when youre time is near! Miss you brothers!”

Grammar and punctuation aside, this post apparently was not the smartest thing the young man could have done.  According to authorities the judge in the case did not like the message or the post online saying that it was disrespectful to the family of the individual that lost their son.  The judge also feels that the post is potentially a violation of his parole.  It looks like the young man might not be heading to the hills of freedom quite yet and might have to do a little more hard time in jail.  What do you think?  Was the Facebook post free speech?  Was it a violation of his parole?  Read the original story below.
